. shake it up shake it up . Kyuhyun was having an off day - in more ways than one. As he strolled the mall, a small bag clutched in his left hand from a previous store, he was softly mumbling to himself. He wasn't worried about looking odd - he knew no one could hear him. The only sign that Kyuhyun was talking to himself was his lips - and they were barely moving. The twenty-three year old man was bored - he didn't like not being busy. Super Junior's schedules were done for a short while, and he and a few of the other group members had the day off. He was one of the few that didn't have anything else scheduled. But being bored and having too much time on his hands didn't relax Kyuhyun - he felt stressed out, and didn't know exactly what to do with himself.
Kyuhyun's anxiety was always the worst right after a busy few months. For a while, all of the members were swamped with work and preparations and shows - and then nothing. It bothered him, as he was the sort of person who adjusted to a certain schedule and then felt almost disoriented when suddenly the safety of the schedule disappears. He found it hard to sleep in, and he had gotten up earlier than almost everyone else. Having nothing to do, he thought that perhaps he'd update his wardrobe and replace a few old things while he was at it; though Kyuhyun didn't like shopping and found it tedious. He didn't have the patience for shopping, and he almost felt like it was a waste of time. Yet, at least he'd found a couple of ties in interesting colors that he thought would go nicely with almost any suit he could possibly be given - that was a good find. Still, he found that he didn't feel particularly accomplished. All of his friends were busy - or sleeping, as they highly recommended that he should be doing, too - and as he scanned his LG phone he grew increasingly irritated. Not a single message had been returned by any of his friends. Except for one - the reply was a simple: "Sorry, Kyu, but I'm in the mountains for a couple of days."
Well that was just splendid.
A later message had asked if Kyuhyun wanted to join him, but Kyuhyun wasn't a very outdoorsy person. Again, he felt like there was too little to do with himself out in the mountains. And it was quiet. Kyuhyun was most certainly a city boy. "Thanks for the offer, but I can't." Kyu replied back - short and sweet. He knew the recipient would be able to tell that Kyuhyun was a little annoyed. But that wasn't out of the ordinary - he was always a little annoyed when he didn't get his way.
Sighing, Kyuhyun slipped his phone into an outer pocket on his jacket blazer. He glanced around the mall, wondering what to do with himself next - he really wasn't hungry, so the food court was out for the next little while. He raised his right hand to rub at his forehead, wondering what he should do, and finally considering that maybe he should just go for a drive or go home to play video games or something - or anything, really. He wondered to himself how much longer it would take for him to adjust to a new schedule - something he could fill with his own time.
Kyuhyun grabbed his phone, intending to make a phone call in one last effort to get hold of anyone he could do something with - or at least plan something to do later in the day. He wasn't really paying attention to where he was going - maybe he thought other people should do that for him, or maybe he was just completely befuddled. However, in that moment of distraction, he felt himself almost fully colliding with another person, and he felt his foot step on someone's shoe.
"Oh..." Kyuhyun looked up from his phone, quickly shoving it away once more. He looked toward the person he'd walked into. "Are you alright?" He asked the blonde girl. There was a slight tone of disinterest in his voice - as if he had better things to do and that this was only a bother. Although, that really wasn't true at all.

. shake it up shake it up . Kyuhyun suddenly started smiling at the girl - good, he really didn't need anyone to cause him any trouble today. The fact that she was friendly enough to forgive him so quickly was a major positive in Kyuhyun's day. Normally, he wasn't quite so preoccupied and clumsy. But, as he had thought before, having his schedule suddenly come to a halt was always a bit of a shock to his system. He really had to stop being such a workaholic.
"Oh, a puppy? Well, I'm sure it's only natural for cute girls to like cute puppies." He said, shoving both his hands into his pockets now, changing his stance. Unconsciously, he was trying to make himself look taller and more open for conversation. "What kind of dog are you planning to get?"
Kyuhyun was a little surprised that a young girl could afford a puppy - they were fairly expensive. Kyuhyun remembered one day how he had brought a dog to the dorm as a joke - his friend had purchased it with Kyuhyun earlier in the day, and Kyuhyun thought it would be funny to make the other Super Junior members think he was bringing a dog to live in the dormitory with them. Of course, his manager had ended the joke earlier than Kyuhyun had intended and the dog went to her new home twenty minutes later.
Well, maybe the girl's parents were going to help her.
"Wouldn't looking at puppies now mess up your outfit?" He looked her up and down, pleased to see such a feminine girl. But the colors she was wearing were light-colored, and the fabric looked as though it was delicate. But then again, Kyuhyun was not an expert on clothing. But if he judged the girl solely on her appearance, he would think she was the sort of girl who liked to keep her appearance neat and clean - and he was doing and thinking just that.
"But, I suppose for a puppy, it's quite worth the risk, isn't it?" He added, looking all too pleased with himself for no apparent reason. But that was Kyuhyun's personality - sometimes, he would particularly arrogant or snarky for no reason. It was just evidence of his mood changing. Now that Kyuhyun - perhaps only momentarily - had something else to occupy himself with, he was entering into quite the high spirits. He thought it was odd, though, that he was attempting to enter into a conversation with a girl he didn't even know - was he really that bored?
Kyuhyun wasn't really taking into consideration who he was. While he was starting to wonder what this girl would think of this man who had walked into her now trying to chat her up, he wasn't considering his social status. Had he bothered to consider this, he would have been thankful that she didn't seem to know who he was. But with his pale skin and his now lightly-colored brown hair, he did stand out to some degree.
Kyuhyun considered what else he could say to the girl, but decided he had said enough. What else could he possibly add at the moment? His hand felt for the cold, smooth surface of his phone, fiddling with it in his pocket. He liked to keep his hands busy, and now that he wasn't walking he was feeling the desire to move in some way. It was a habit he'd always had, and something he did without thinking. He directed his eyes toward the girl once again, and smiled.

. shake it up shake it up . The young man swept a hand gently through his hair, and shrugged as if in thought. He grinned again, "Well, if he's only eight years old, you'll probably be looking after the puppy a lot until both of them get older." He was now properly smiling again, with a slight glint in his eye, "Your brother is probably just another puppy to it." Kyuhyun considered this again - he never really understand why people would get dogs for their young children. But then, Kyuhyun was still yet to gather any fatherly instinct in him at all. And he didn't think that would happen anytime soon. Sure, kids were cute but he still felt a little odd around them. After all, he was the baby in his family, still. His sister was older than him. And in Super Junior, the only one younger than him was Henry Lau. Kyuhyun had played the younger role for his entire life thus far.
Kyuhyun had always wanted a dog. His sister had a dog - he liked to go walk it sometimes. His sister's dog was a medium-sized mixed breed. He didn't know much about dogs, other than the small amounts of time he'd spent with other people's dogs. He shrugged again - he seemed to be doing that a lot. "I really know nothing about dogs." He finally admitted. "I don't have the time or the space for a dog. I live in a dormitory."
Kyuhyun turned his gaze to the dog that seemed to have caught his companion's eye. "I always wanted a large dog. That would be so awesome." But then he thought more of how he liked to spend his extra time... He certainly liked to play his video games. He didn't think he was responsible enough for a dog... Was he? He didn't know. Not that it mattered much. "But it's nice that you're willing to help your brother out so much."
He let out a long sigh, starting to lost interest. He was now absent-minded, and barely heard her until he thought he heard her start to say his name. For a moment, it didn't really occur to him - he was used to people he didn't know saying his name. "Yeah, I guess. Sure." Then he snapped to attention and glanced at her. He was going to pretend he didn't notice - it was now going to be far too interesting to talk to someone who was pretending not to know who he was. Well, no point not giving her more details as they moved along the conversation.
Standing there talking about a subject Kyuhyun didn't care much about was starting to bore him. He studied the girl as she examined the rest of the dogs, then as he followed her in he looked around the store. Mostly, he saw a few couples and a few younger kids, but he didn't notice anything that interested him. So he asked the girl, almost rudely, "So why'd you bleach your hair?" Even the tone in which he asked the question was blunt - a habit Kyuhyun had never noticed of himself. "I bleached my hair once. It was such a pain to look after."
Not to mention how his hair had broken off a bit after that... Good thing the stylists knew what they were doing. He didn't have the patience for such things, nor did he care enough about his hair to want to stay blonde. Light brown was much easier to manage for him.
"I'm Kyuhyun, by the way." He said, hiding a devilish grin with mastered ease. It had already been rude of him not to introduce himself to begin with, so he suspected it was time to do so. He was a little absent-minded that day, as he was sure she already knew.

. shake it up shake it up . As much as Kyuhyun’s interest in the topic was lacking, he still found the girl somewhat endearing – he didn’t know her, after all, so he couldn’t really judge for sure. He supposed to main thing was that she was giving him something to do, and she had been kind enough to let a strange man follow her around. Although, now that that thought struck him, he wasn’t sure if that was particularly kind of her or if it was only because Kyuhyun was pretty harmless. Among other things, he wasn’t sure if his idol status had influenced her decision in allowing him to tag along with her. That was always a factor, and sometimes it was a factor he forgot. When he was with other idols, he was always aware of who he was with and the stares they sometimes drew from people. But when he was alone, it was hard to consider himself as someone well-known. After all, to himself he would always just be a typical person. It’s hard to think of one’s self as anything different. At least, he thought so.
But, focusing his attention back on the girl, he knew that she really did seem kind and sweet – the perfect girl, really. He thought she must be an immensely interesting person once someone got to know her, but he didn’t really have that chance – how likely was it that they’d – ahem – stumble into one another again. It was just the topic that was boring him. For Kyuhyun, it was difficult for him to show interest in a topic regarding people he didn’t know. He tried to show interest, as that was the polite thing to do, but he really didn’t think it was his fault for not being able to seem more excited – what was there to be excited about?
”I’m sure your brother will appreciate the thought, once he’s old enough to understand it.” Kyuhyun didn’t know much about children, but he was sure the boy wouldn’t fully grasp what his sister was doing for him until he was older. Eunae seemed great at taking care of him, but kids didn’t understand what went into their care until they became older.
Kyuhyun studied Eunae as she seemed lost in thought. He puffed out his cheeks a bit with air, and then let it go as she turned back to him. He brightened a bit, ”Yeah, I love large dogs! They’re pretty fun. And growing with him is a nice thought.” Again, he was finding it difficult to relate to her situation. He realize the commitment a dog took, but he wasn’t entirely knowledgeable about what she wanted or planned. The family aspect was hard for him – he was always the “baby” of whatever group he was in.
The young man studied his companion as she spoke of her. He wondered what school she went to – most schools didn’t allow students to dye their hair – and he thought she was very lucky to have the opportunity to experiment with her likes and dislikes. But then, a thought struck him, ”How...”, he started, wanting to ask how she knew he looked better with darker hair, but then he remembered, ”Oh, right.” He finished, not wanting to talk to her about his work. At least, not at the moment. He didn’t think leading into that topic that way would be a very good conversation.
The next point the girl made struck him, she had taken him entirely by surprise. No one had ever really pointed out Kyuhyun’s behaviour to him before – not unless it was Ryeowook, or another member of Super Junior. At first, he found himself a bit flabbergasted by the turn of events. ”Erm, well, I suppose... It’s hard for me to find interest right now, yes.” He admitted. He didn’t see the point in lying – perhaps sometimes it would be a good idea for him to offer white lies, but he didn’t. ”I’m not having the best day. So I don’t think it’s you.” It wasn’t her, that was true. He was bored before. And he was also not interested in the topic.
”Forgive me if I seem rude. But no, dogs are not really my area of interest.” He didn’t bother addressing the other point – he had asked her about her hair. If he wasn’t interested in talking to her, why would he have tried to talk about something else? Oh well. She could think what she liked. He’d just met her, after all.

He supposed that, had he been on the receiving end of his actions, he would have been annoyed, too. But, being a young man with such pride, he felt wounded. So, while he pouted, he focused on the dogs, feeling a slight tinge of envy that this girl had the time to devote to any kind of animal, especially a dog. Still, he knew the feeling would pass once he left the pet store.
He watched her with his dark eyes while she admired one puppy in particular. He moved closer to her, tilting himself forward for a closer look at the puppy. Yes, it was cute - but he couldn't fathom why it was so special. The others were just as cute to him. He was leaning close to her shoulder, while he kept his arms behind his back, holding each of his hands in the other. "Ahh... Nice choice, then." He said, offering her a tight small. "Your brother will like it." Kyuhyun wondered at the gender of the dog, knowing that a young boy would probably have a bias to a male dog - but then, what did Kyuhyun know?
Kyuhyun took a step backward, clearing the space between the two of them once again. He was found he was beginning to cheer himself up, as her personality was rather infectious. If he put everything from his mind, maybe he could still enjoy his free day. He grinned at her, a bit of an eye smile also starting to form, until he heard her next question. Well, obviously the two of them were done playing games. He had kept himself naively hoping that maybe she didn't pay attention to idols - maybe actors were more her thing. But, that hope was now dashed.
A sharp intake of breath came from Kyuhyun, before he finally relaxed his features. He kept his shoulders square, almost the way he stood when surrounded by fans and worried about his personal space. It would be another moment before this also relaxed, as old habits always died hard. At least she had given him a topic they could both work with.
"I play computer games," he found himself laughing, giving her the most obvious answer he could. But, he was having a hard time thinking of his hobbies, "Though, more than anything, I just like having extra time to myself... I can give that time to my family and friends. Really, with a schedule like mine, I can enjoy almost anything." He found himself grinning, and he stared at her, "You must be busy, being a student? What do you like to do in your free time?"
But before he could get a reply from her, he was listening to her talk about her hair, and he found himself marveling at her as she trotted away to speak to a sales associate of the store. He admired her from behind, wishing he could go back to college. College girls are so cute, he thought to himself, before bringing a hand under his neck and turning away to look at something else. He wasn't going to outright ogle her. He only looked backed at her again when she had returned to his side, and he momentarily resisted patting her head - why, of all things, he wanted to pat her head, he wasn't sure. Not only would that be condescending, but he supposed it would give off many mixed ideas. If someone patted him on the head, Kyuhyun was sure he would hit that person quite hard.
Kyuhyun lowered his eyes again when the topic of his lack of interest reappeared, "Well, I figured I had run into you... So it was only fair for me to come along. I could have carried your bags... or something." Now he found he wasn't sure why he had followed her, but he didn't regret it. Despite the current conversation, what he was doing now was better than being alone to trudge the mall.
Still, Kyuhyun gave his best effort to cheer her up. "Don't worry about it. I only came to the mall to kill time. I couldn't get a hold of anyone I know, so I was here alone." He didn't bother asking her her goal, as he figured she had come to the mall for the dog. And she had obviously succeeded in that task. "Are we still waiting here for something, by the way?" He said, wondering what was up with the sales associate.[/style] | |
