Some kind of party was going on tonight, as usual SB wasn’t invited. No surprise there but it would be nice to actually attend a high school party. Her last party came with a clown, musical chairs and a cartoon cake, not exactly the fun she had in mind. Then again how could she refuse. Leehyun, this sweet little girl she babysat for extra cash, invited her to her birthday party. It was four hours listening to Hannah Montana, Justin Bieber and the Wonder Girls Nobody while being surrounded by tiny little people. Yay! what fun.
She giggled to herself at that memory, realizing that she was the only one left in class. She bolted out of there with her books in tow into the crowded hallway. She slipped under her own cover of invisibility as she quietly made her way to the locker. No she did not have super powers, she was just ignored a lot. Once, she got sat on because the person did not see her there. Wait, make that twice. High schoolers here just regarded her as the weird chick from an all girls school who threw off the curve on a regular basis. In other words, she was the smart, quiet new kid even though she has been here for about 7 years.
Well the smart quiet new kid heaved a sigh of relief as she approached her locker. No sign of Joon. That was good news because he would always have a snarky comment ready for her. She cheered silently, a smile reappearing on her face as she opened her locker. But the happiness did not last long. Opening her locker triggered a loud gun shot which made her cry out and jump, dropping all her books and papers in her process. The people around her tried their best to hold in their laughter, well some of them at least. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to get a hold of herself. Damn Joon why did you have to do that. Pick on someone your own size please. She opened them and peered inside her locker, ignoring everyone around her. SB pulled out a recorder with a sigh. How did he get my code? I have changed it five times for god sakes. She stuffed the incriminating piece of evidence in her pocket. She was not going to tell the teachers nor was she going to confront him. The only thing SB could do was to keep it from him.
SB bent down to pick up her mess. She hadn’t been at her locker for the whole morning so she had been carrying 5 books at one go. Not to mention the loose worksheets and notes sandwiched in between. SB shook her head in despair as she tried to find all of them. At least the others had been courteous enough to step over them.
it’ll get better! I promise |

Today's going to be a long day. Byeongkeun did not get enough sleep last night because a couple of his friends had called him to make last minute plans for partying. That poor mental schedule book of his was always booked with something. Playing hard to get? Rarely. His reputation keeps him from slacking off with fashion, communication, entertainment, and overall social skills. After all, he did have an important image to maintain.
Sometimes, he would try to arrive to classes late just so people would look up from their work to acknowledge his entrance. It's nice to get attention for the effort you put into something, anything. But no, today he was going to be on time regardless of his sleepiness. Still, he carefully picked out his outfit from his wardrobe - today was going to be more casual, so he put on his noticeably comfy, black cardigan.
The first class of the day wasn't that bad; Except for the usual dronish teacher who spewed litany after litany. How -does- he expect anyone to pay attention?!, Byeongkeun thought as he gently facedesked his... desk. As soon as the bell rang, he was swarmed by his friends, every single one of them talking about a different subject. Hanging out on the weekends, music, girls, parties. Apparently there was another party tonight - right after he found out, a couple of people handed him the invitations. Normally, Keun would enjoy this routine attention, but today, he was just in his own world. He tried really hard to block out all the chatter and squeals that he heard around him - especially from those girls who made those comments when he walked past them. "Oh my, he's so hot. He's sooo cool, woah! Are those designer boots? How stylish." Girly giggle after giggle.
And then he heard a loud sound with a cry from a girl near the locker down the hall. Walking through the large swarms of people, Keun had stepped on a worksheet. In fact, as he looked down, he noticed a couple more of those worksheets floating around. The people in the school could be very inconsiderate sometimes. It'd be nice to pick up someone's hard work and give it back to them instead of stepping all over it and laughing at the same time. Keun picked up the worksheet from his right foot and recognized the neat and organized work that had to come from the school's genius, Seobyul. He noticed that her locker had been a mess too. Perhaps Joon, the notorious school bully, was picking on her again. Keun and Joon had some major beef between them. Not only did he dislike bullies, he especially disliked the bullies who treated girls with such unfavorableness.
Normally, Keun didn't initiate conversation with the girls there. Most of the time it was because they were just annoying, but then again, there's no use in being rude and saying it out loud. Seobyul was different - in a way he felt it was his responsibility to protect the tormented and are genuinely kind-hearted! -mental superhero pose-
"Seobyul~ I thought geniuses like you are supposed to be more organized with your things," he lightheartedly joked as he crouched down to pick up a couple of her things that had dropped. Once again blocking out the gasps of several girls who saw him pick up her stuff, he edged onto talking to her, ignoring their comments. "So... why's your locker such a mess today? Could it be that you were walking and studying and you tripped because you weren't looking?!" He softly chuckled and scratched the back of his head. "Well, here! Let me help you! Are you going to another class now?" She had so much stuff that he practically had to hug her things to death just so they wouldn't fall again. He had already felt bad enough that a smart and kind girl like her was getting bullied, but she was also his "newly hired tutor," without the money. Duties duties duties.

Page four? Come on out page four! SB thought to herself, looking down the hall. The damage done wasn’t that bad but some were still scattered far far away. She spied one down the hall, ”Page four!” she said a little too loudly. People began chuckling again, before moving on with their lives.
Something unexpected happened. Someone picked up page four and began walking towards her. Her gaze trailed up from the hand to the face. She raised her eyebrows in surprise at the sight of the familiar face. heyy there she said to herself mentally, contented with the turn of events. Gathering the last of the papers she could see, SB stood up quickly. As he walked nearer, she stuffed some of the books nervously into the locker, which was starting to look like a train wreck. So much for being organized this year.
She smiled shyly at him before turning back to her locker. She precariously perched the books on the top shelf of the locker, silently praying that they would not topple over.
”Hi chim byeongkeun” she greeted him shyly while he picked more of her stuff up. SB had always called him by his entire name because she did not know if they were friends. He acted like they were friends but it was not as if they hung out after school for fun or went to parties together. Since they ran in different circles, SB decided to play it safe and stored the nicknames in the back of her mind.
”I was in a rush…” She smiled at his joke, ”I walk into pillars, glass doors and people more often than tripping actually” she told him honestly and seriously. It was cute in a dorky and weird way. She shrugged casually when he asked her what happened, ”Nothing happened, just a less than sunny morning that’s all. It happens all the time.” she replied, not wanting to name Joon. After all, it was just a suspicion although she was 99% sure that it was him. But her main reason for keeping it hush was because she did not want to cause another altercation between Kim and Joon. Everyone knew that they were enemies and SB did not want to see Kim angry. I mean he was so smiley and happy now.
Thank you” she smiled apologetically, taking some of the books from him and stuffing it into her locker. She noticed how comically cute he looked with a truckload of books in his arm. She subconsciously let out a laugh but looked down quickly after that. Praying silently that he did not notice her little outburst then, she grabbed the remaining books and stuffed them into the locker again. In a split second, she slammed the locker shut and leaned against it to make sure it did not explode open. SB heaved a sigh of relief, glad that the ordeal was over.
”Free period before lunch. Yay. But you look like you could use the break more than me” she said walking towards him. She pointed at his eyes, shifting the attention off her. He had mild eye bags forming ”Been revising hard? Getting your money’s worth off all that tuition I’m giving you. That is…if you’re even paying me.” she teased hopefully, knowing that that was studying was far from what he was actually doing. She did not mind doing it for free. Although she did not know how he felt about her, but SB already treated Byeongkeun as a friend, a good friend who helped her out. And friends helped each other out so tuition was a no brainer for her.

After Seobyul had taken the heavy load of books off of him, Byeongkeun put his hands in his pockets and leaned on the locker that was one space away from hers. That must have alerted many people's "coolness" radars, because talking to Seobyul for this "long" had already been longer than his usual conversations with the other girls in school.
Trying to hold back a chuckle, Keun grinned and brought up his hand to his mouth to further suppress that laughter. It was probably funnier because he could easily imagine Seobyul walking into those pillars, glass doors, and people. It was cute in a dorky kind of way and not like many of the other girls' overdone aegyo. He didn't want to insult her by laughing because even though he thought her response sounded somewhat like a joke, it was also austere in a way.
Keun always felt like he would have to hold back on his comments and actions with people who were generally less out-spoken, and in this case, he felt that Seobyul was much more quiet and gentler than the other girls. He'd never seen her exhaustively freak out at his presence, be in any way doting towards him, or even occupy herself with little details of his life. It almost felt nice to lay low on the severe coolness factors for a while. Over several occurrences, he had heard some girls talk about his plans for the day or silly, gossiped details about his life whether it be his family life or his favorite color, foods, & activities. Vegemite?! Just because I like to eat healthy doesn't mean I like eating that yeasty atrocity. Getting to know him would have been easier anyway if they had bothered to. Then again, he had always been picky when it came to the subject of girls.
She has a cute laugh, but it doesn't look like she laughs much~ He wasn't expecting anything that would sound like a laugh from her, so he was thrown a little off guard. He was used to hearing loud, attention-grabbing laughter that came from obnoxious girls. Of course, they were doing it on purpose, but a less desperate way of getting attention would be less annoying. At least that's what Keun usually went by. He prefers to get attention through modesty so to speak, whereas people would recognize coolness without being particularly needy about it. He winced at the loud slam from her locker. She must keep a lot of things in there if that much effort has to be put in a locker.
"I uh, well, I -would have- been studying if wasn't out last night!" That was his most common excuse, in fact, it was true. But even though he wasn't home last night and he had been busy the entire day as well, Keun did in fact, try to get some studying done. Finding an effective study technique was harder than keeping in touch with all of his friends, maybe because he wasn't used to planning his studying anyway. Though he did try because he was getting tutored. It would be bad if he were only wasting her time, especially since she was doing it for free.
She mentioned "pay," and he pondered that thought for a brief moment. Well, just her seeing him improve grade-wise wouldn't be good enough. After all, that would be a selfish way to think about it. "Hmm, well how about we grab something to eat during lunch today? That's a start!" It was probably a good idea to get to know his personal tutor since he would be seeing her a lot because of that. He wouldn't mind eating lunch with Seobyul anyhow. She never did come off as one of those scarily obsessive girls.

"Sorry! My locker is a train wreck. Have to clean it up soon " she told him after seeing him wince like that. SB looked up at him, taking a good look at him. He was cute. Not like the other boys here who gave her the impression that all guys were loud, rude and boisterous. She had to admit, he was good looking sweet and nice. Probably the reason why the entire straight female population in school was drooling after him. They lived in two separate worlds, it was a little amazing how their two worlds collided and she had no complaints. She blushed a little realising that this looked like the beginning of a crush. She had not much experience with crushes, having been in a single sex school all her life. It was weird but kind of sweet at the same time.
She spied him out of the corner of her eye as they walked down the hall. SB nodded slowly at his lame excuse, wondering if she should call his bluff. Well she could chide him for not revising but that would just have been mean. It was not his fault that he was not doing well…not entirely at least. It was like a tough choice to make, friends or grades. SB did not have a choice when it came to that, it made her grateful, sometimes. So she decided to just help him along the way instead of making him feel down about it.
”Well…I guess I can’t help it if you’re in demand” she replied, shaking her head. SB was not mad, but she made a mental note to try to see if there was anything more she could do to help his grades. ”high demand actually” she added, nudging him gently, looking away from him at the high school crowd. People (mainly girls) were staring. It was not the usual cold stare she received, it was more of admiration or…envy. It was intimidating for her. She looked down immediately at the thought of that, letting the hair fall over her cheeks.
She looked up in shock when he asked her to eat lunch with him. ”Oh no…I do not mind tutoring you for free you don’t have to eat lunch with me as payment.” She tucked a stray curl behind her ear, thinking about the offer. Realising that her reply might have came across rather stand offish ”I mean…I would love to have lunch with you but if you have other plans go ahead. It’s not an obligation but it was sweet of you to ask” she said in a breath before breaking into a small shy smile.
SB pulled on the strap of her bag, thinking of something intelligent or cool to say. ”So some party huh last night? Are you going to the one tonight?” she asked curiously. ”Opps sorry! I forgot that I was supposed to pretend that I did not know about that” she told him with a apologetic and joking smile. SB was comfortable enough to be joking with Byeongkeun which was rare for her.

"Maybe I could lease out my locker to you or something. Some of your classes are near it too from what I've seen." His school necessities were namely: his phone, overly-fashionable backpack, wallet, and a couple of books. He'd have to at least pretend to be working in class.
He felt her nudge him, and as he turned his head towards her, he noticed that Seobyul had her head down. I wonder what she's thinking now? Casually looking around at the stares, Keun tuned into some of the whispers. Stares and whispers weren't ever a problem for him - in fact, those are the responses that he always loved. Ah, so that's why."How can I not be - am I not absolutely adorable and handsome?~" Keun ran his hand through his hair once and laughed. He had hoped that his joke would have caught her attention just enough for her to look up. Whenever he's with anybody, Keun would try to lighten up the mood and make sure nobody's uncomfortable around him.
Part of Keun's daily routine is making sure that the outfits that he plans are stylish. He had to put together outfits that can turn heads. He knew that he probably spent as much time as a girl with a lot of money on a shopping spree. In fact, shopping was a very serious ritual. He would definitely make a superb shopping buddy! Being on so many social networks and the internet in general, Keun was very updated about the current fashion trends.
"I always have plans," he playfully grinned, "but I make sure to schedule what I have to do daily - let's go eat together today." Adding his signature charm smile after his response, Keun thought that it would help assure Seobyul that his mind was set on that lunch plan. Whenever it was lunch time, Keun would usually be with closest guy friends. Not to anyone's shock, his friends were also very charismatic and completely fabulous. The closest friends he had were like his family and in being popular, it was hard to find such friends. He knew that they would automatically understand anyway. Him eating without them today. It wasn't that big of a deal - maybe to the other people though, it would be.
"Did you know about that?!" Keun acted surprised - the acting was more for the cuteness factor. Acting cute was a sneaky tactic to escape things and usually it would work. "I don't think I'm going to tonight's. I'm still a little worn out from last night's. Girls are tiring to dance with, of course." Tilting his head a little, Keun pointed to his face and gave Seobyul a wide smile.
Free period? Maybe I could just miss class and observe this dork in her habitat, he joked as they got through the final crowd of people. Keun didn't want to go to Swimming today anyway - it was Bikini Friday again.

”Like you aren’t already milking me badly. I bet the lease comes with a sky high exorbitant rate.” she teased, not serious at all. ”Seriously, thank you for that offer but I’ll manage. Maybe I’ll just throw away the ones that I’ve memorised” she said casually. So there she was, switching into geek mode again. You couldn’t blame her she was comfortable about her stance which was sunny, bright and nerdy.
She reverted back quickly to happy mode when he made the adorable comment. She smiled at that, looking up in time to see him laugh. Subconsciously, she laughed too. Laughter was infectious and by now she had forgotten all about the horrible prank that Joon had played on her. ”and so modest too. I can definitely see the selling point here ” she said with a hint of sarcasm at his 'adorable and handsome' coment. SB gave him a ‘I’m trying not to laugh’ look before breaking into another smile. Boy was she smiley today.
They really did look like an odd couple. Keun in his voguish clothes looking like he just stepped out of a magazine and SB in whatever she just threw on in the morning. She was not sloppy in her dressing although sometimes she did feel like throwing on a pair of jeans and wearing the cute pajama top to school. Not that anyone would notice. But SB had a secret. She enjoys speed shopping. She would head to dongdaemun and spend 2 hours buying clothes for the next school term. Whatever she liked she bought without trying. It was funny to go home and try them on one by one. The ones that did not look right went to the salvation army. It was a fun way to spend all that money she made because she did not have any where else to spend it on.
Looking at Keun, she wondered if he spent time picking out his outfits in the morning. They certainly did look nice and put together. She mentally applauded him for his meticulousness smart boy. he would probably freak at the way I shop
”Haha a schedule? Why are you more organized than me? Okay you’re on lunch it is but aren’t you afraid I would drill you during lunch?” she asked him playfully. Fat hope actually, she had stuffed all her books in her locker. Right now she was only armed with her phone, stationeries and a few other miscellaneous items. She smiled back shyly at his smile. There was no way she could match that smile he gave her. That smile told her that he seemed genuinely happy to be talking to her. Was he? She was confused but it was a happy confused.
Her eyes darted across his surprised face. How does he manage to look cute yet comical she thought to herself. Feeling more at ease, the real SB was starting to emerge. Sweet, playful, funny and loves the sound of laughter ”Lesson one. Never lie to your tutor” she replied nodding slowly. ”Ah so the rumors are true? …you’re not really into girls huh” she asked wide eyed cutely, in all false innocence before chuckling at his expression when he pointed to his face.
SB stopped at the stairs. Wow they were already at the end of the hallway, time had passed quickly, As if on cue the bell rang and people started filing into classes. ”So I guess this is goodbye you have to get to class right?” she asked. She had fun talking to him, something that did not happen often in school. A small wave of disappointment washed over her. Oh well everyone had to move on unless by some miracle he decided to stay and entertain her.

Memorization. Studying shouldn't be that complicated for Keun since he had to do a lot of memorization. People's names, what they do, his plans, his schedules, music. Music needed a lot of memorization. Who would want to see a performer with his face in the music anyway. Whew, studying that much. I guess her brain really is like a file cabinet. I guess it's almost like M2D.
"You've figured me out, the successful salesman."
[/b] Keun stuck both of his thumbs up near his faced and gave her a convincing wink. It was always nice to see other people's smiles. Seeing people upset and vulnerable often caused him to feel extremely uncomfortable and it was as if his fireman alerts were calling. "I'm a fireman! It's my responsibility to make sure people are safe from the overwhelming flames of brutality!" he would say to himself on some days when he felt completely pumped up and read to go. But hey, maybe some people like corny. Who knows. "I know~ Go ahead and check me out"[/b] he posed comically when he saw her looking at his outfit. Keun brushed his bangs with his right hand and shook up the strands that stuck together. Since Seobyul didn't come off as creepy or obsessive, Keun thought the comment was an acceptable joke. If she did like his style, in the future, maybe he could buy her clothes in part of his tutor-payment. Girls like clothes don't they? And guys usually bought them clothes or accessories; At least that's how the movies went. Keun looked around for her books, looking left, right, up, down; "Books... books... books?"[/b] He didn't see her carry any books on the subjects Seobyul had been tutoring him. "As soon as math or science comes out of your mouth during lunch, I'll be forced to stuff it with a chocolate muffin - for the sake of everyone, you know."[/b] Even though he tried to say it as sternly as possible, he almost laughed after "chocolate muffin." As for drilling, so far, it was actually one of his favorite ways to study. Verbals quizzes were always more engaging and interactive, so being a very social person, it seemed to be of his benefit. Today's been a relaxing day so far. I guess this is like a take-a-break-from-Byeongkeun field trip. He cocked an eyebrow as if to question what she had just asked him. "Oh? And who are you two question my personal preference hmm?"[/b] he asked, pretending to scold her, "Do you keep track on rumors about me then?~ Of course I'm into girls, silly, I just have different categories for them."[/b] Sometimes Keun would sit and think about where all the rumors would come from. The slightest thing he could do could always lead to a potential rumor, oftentimes crazy and unrelated. Just imagine the kinds of rumors that would go around just because he started talking to Seobyul more publicly instead of just standing up for her. "Actually, I don't think my teacher would notice if I were gone-"[/b] he leaned on the wall at the entrance of her classroom. A couple of his other friends happened to be in this class as well, so Keun gave them a brief smile and wave as they walked into the classroom. "- you said you had a free period right? Do you think your teacher would notice if I stayed? I mean, it's for a good reason too - I want to study a nerd in the classroom."[/b] It was a good time to skip Swimming today because of the overly-exposed girls in tight bikinis. It wasn't because it made him particularly uncomfortable, but some of the girls' behaviors were too obscene and needy. It was even worse being in the same water with everyone "accidentally" bumping into him in the water. Competition was the only part he liked about that class, definitely not the free, aka do-whatever-you-want-to-poor-old-Byeongkeun day. He didn't want to drown, getting crowded in the water like that. He gave Seobyul a friendly smile, awaiting her approval for him to come into the class. This was most definitely a good cause - he would have a hands-on opportunity to learn about sufficient study techniques! She smiled softly at the face he made, darn the boy really knew how to turn a rainy day around she had to give him that. SB couldn't help but blush lightly at the wink he gave her. It wasn't embarrassing or anything, it was just a natural reflex for the shy girl. And since she was not wearing any make up except for lip balm (which hardly counts as make up) she realized it was noticeable. he's probably not paying much attention to me anyway she told herself assuredly.
SB rolled her eyes playfully when he posed comically before giving him a bashful smile. "sorry I was just wondering where you got your clothes and how you wear them. I just wake up in the morning and throw stuff on" she explained quickly not wanting him to think she was crazy or in love with him. She had a little crush but she'd always tell herself to ignore it because the odds were close to impossible. Now those feelings were stored in the feeling hole in her mind. Where all unwanted feelings were stored, like anger towards Joon. Why else could she have been so calm most of the time.
He saw right through her threat. An empty threat, that was what she was. A cat without claws, yet sometimes she felt that she was the happiest this way. Carrying on that happy spirit "so I guess I'll talk history, I always did like blueberry muffins better. How do you feel about the cold war?" she joked. Yep she was more and more at ease to be even joking with people let alone a dude. Despite her threat she made a mental note to try to be normal at lunch. "Everyone? We're going to be sitting with your friends?" She asked in shock and partial amusement. She could not imagine their faces when she sat down although she was worried that BK might get in trouble with the popular people for letting her tag along.
"Offense taken. I'm sorry chim byeongkeun." She nodded in agreement saying his entire name again. "That question was just too personal although i was kidding you didn't have to answer that" she told him sweetly. That was the way she was, always afraid of hurting other people even if they weren't hurt. "I heard Amber Young saying you rejected her and that anyone who rejected her was probably gay" she told him, "her words not mine! being the quiet kid has it's advantage I guess, you hear things" But something else he said caught her attention, "different categories?" She asked him curiously, wondering what the boy brain was really like.
She raised her eyebrows when he offered to skip class. She weighed that offer quickly while he waved to his friends. They spotted her too and began to talk among themselves, casting side way glances at the pair outside. "Are you sure? What class do you have now that is oh so unimportant" She asked, worried. He never did tell her what class he had now. It was nice that he would come to study period but it wasn't that great skipping class. But she was distracted by his reason. He did not know how she studied. She was really an unorthodox nerd to begin with. She let out a small laugh in response to his reason. "Please tell me that you are joking. And who said anything about nerds studying in a classroom." She eyed him playfully. If he thought he had got her nerd act all figured out, he was wrong. "Wait a minute, since when have you showed any interest in studying?" She asked him curiously, tilting her head to the side and staring up at him. "My nerd senses tell me that something is up" she emphasized the word nerd strongly in response to him calling her a nerd. She preferred geek but SB kept that to herself. He did not need to be burdened with her quirks no matter how kind of cute they were.
