It's... interesting, Byeongkeun remarked, contemplating whether or not kimchi was a good dessert flavor. There wasn't anything particularly bad about it. In fact, the kimchi added a familiar zing to the common marshmellow flavored cream. "Who ever thought that I'd still look this good even in old age with a pink beard?" he asked spiritedly, trying to ease her off of her apologies. He had worse things spilled on him, such as random soup that he spilled on himself that one time, when his fan had blown a piece of paper that touched him; thank goodness no one was there to see that.
In grade school, Keun was only beginning to ascend the social ladder, so he understood the other cliques and "classes." Some may say that whole hierarchy is silly because none of it matters when all of them graduate, but it does. Besides just studying subjects in classrooms, building social and communication skills is equivalently important especially in big businesses involving a good public relations team. He remembered seeing Seobyul playing along in their middle school playground, getting picked on by some of their rude classmates. "No need to thank Superman, since that's my goal anyway," he replied, feeling even more fulfilled today.
-----------------
Keun stabbed with his fork, at a little piece of french toast that sponged up maple syrup. He tried making his hypothetical question as casual as possible, though it was meant to be casual. Consider it as a placement test for Seobyul in his help-Kimmy-get-used-to-boys plan.
He sneakily looked around the cafe as he pretended to stretch and look at his watch, instead, observing the remainder of happy couples scattered around Bricks & Scones. He had to make sure he was doing this correctly, and if he weren't, someone around him would surely set him on the right track with their questioning stares and shock. That is, only if he were doing something that didn't abide to the Boyfriend Code Book Pamphlet, whatever existed. He clasped both his hands together on the table and rested his chin on his loosely locked fingers, thinking. He took in her words and evaluated them carefully, nodding slowly as he listened to her finish her reply to the boyfriend question.
When he heard the trigger word "yes," he broke from his blank concentration and laughed lightly. Returning back to a smile, Keun let out a quick sigh. "Wrong," he said, clicking his tongue. With his eyes closed, he lifted a finger and shook his head along with his finger, which looked like a parent telling his child that she couldn't have a certain type of candy. Looking at Seobyul straight in the eyes again, anything but sternly, he told her, "trusting a guy like this so easily, nonono." He was well aware of how many guys treated girls, being around other guys and being one himself. Not that he was one of those jerks. "You'll get hurt like this - you can't trust a guy even if he's nice to you," he said frankly, remembering all the dramatic breakups he's seen. "... no matter how sexy he is," Keun added to lighten up the tension. This was only a small part of his test, to get a feel of where he needed to take things.
He would be a fantastic boyfriend in theory though, at least for girls who would want a doting boyfriend who was willing to spoil her rotten and do almost anything she wanted. He'd put his own interests behind his girlfriend's, which was pretty big given how important he ranked himself internally. Keun envied the couples who always had something to do - the ones that are so dynamic that a couple competition wouldn't be hard to resist - the ones that can actually talk instead of mere cuddle buddies or image boosters; those "relationships" were too easy. He already had a ton of those experiences.

Puts on her best smile Animal kingdom. That was the word that frequently came to mind when the topic of high school hierarchy popped up. They had the alpha males and their ‘mates’, not to mention the ever so popular food chain. She was undoubtedly a shrimp or plankton when it came to the food chain. On the other hand, Keun did seem like a whale or a shark. Wait no he was a whale, a shark was reserved for the more aggressive types like DJ. She was never good at public speaking. That was the one class she got an occasional B in. Something about throwing up behind the podium affected her grade. SB never did aspire to be a lawyer, so that certainly wasn’t a concern at the moment. Despite her stellar grades, she had no idea what she wanted to do when she grew up. Meh~ there were still 4-5 good years for her to think about that.
Back to the matter at hand, the equivocal question on dating. SB and Keun, on a date. As ridiculous preposterous as that sounded, he did look pretty serious when he asked her. It was one thing to play pretend; it was another to play pretend so seriously. The girl was smart when it came to lesson plans and dioramas but when it came to boy girl relationships, fine she needed help, stat.
She gave him the ‘uh what?’ look when he laughed, completely confused from the sudden laugh. Maybe it was the really nice tasting fried rice that messed up her head and hearing. She leaned forward with a concerned expression on her face as he began to explain what went wrong. Her expression began to morph from confusion to realisation. She realised that it was all nothing but a test. A test? Shouldn’t she be the one giving him the tests. Whatever happened to their tutor-tutee relationship. Seems like the little girl had forgotten all about their little agreement. He was supposed to tutor her on the ins and outs of B.G.Rs and she was supposed to tutor him in schoolwork.
It all boiled down to their purely professional relationship. ”Oh…” escaped from her lips, as she listened to his explanation. She wanted to face palm herself and call herself stupid. She swam way over her head in this round. Stupid crush. She thought to herself, wishing that she never did have a crush on him. If she didn’t, she probably wouldn’t have said yes so easily.
There was no hiding her embarrassment for this round. She winced in embarrassment, and blushed when he made the sexy comment. She looked down, wanting to head desk so badly but realised that if she did, she would be face desk-ing into a platter of awesome tasting fried rice.
Catching herself in mid head desk, she sat up straight. snap out of that mini meltdown she scolded herself, looking back up at him. Well if he was going to teach her, she might as well listen, student- teacher relationship style. Pushing away all feelings of embarrassment, disappointment and…embarrassment, she smiled sweetly and looked back at him. ”Sorry about that” she told him, hoping the blush would disappear from her cheeks. ”You caught me way off guard, with rice in my mouth and all” she explained, hoping that he wouldn’t notice half of the faces she just made. He probably did, you’d have to be blind not to notice that.
SB rested her chin on her hands, ”Noted, never say yes until he begs and grovels” she nodded, regaining her cheerfulness. She had been through much worse for that to rattle her. Plus, knowing that this was a lesson made it much easier for her to push away his false advances. ”If I ever get a boyfriend, you’ll be the first to know so you can look him over for me” she grinned, maybe a little too widely. It was obvious she was still burning with embarrassment but she didn’t want that to affect him, lest he thought that he was at fault.
Awkward silence lapsed over for once, ”So what else do you have up your sleeve” she asked, wanting to move on. ”Try it, it’s really good” she waved a scoop of rice in front of him, smiling up at him, as if to say ‘I’m okay let’s move on’. Nah she would rather have him as a friend than scare him off like that. That was her motive today, she decided, to make friends with Keun.

By the time Byeongkeun was done with her, Seobyul would be an experienced dater. She'd have a radar that would automatically be able to distinguish useless boys and genuine ones, a skill that many girls didn't have. Maybe Dongoon would even be put in his place with what Seobyul will learn.
It took a moment, but Keun acknowledged her "oh" with an uneasy laugh. Ah, did she think that I was being serious? he said to himself quickly when he remembered the advice he received about making sure a girl doesn't take anything you mean to heart. Even if it were a test. He didn't want to cause her any embarrassment or awkwardness, though he did expect an honest answer from her.
His friends had given him a lot of advice in getting a girl, most of which involved good looks and charm, but rarely did anyone mention being considerate for their girlfriend. Not to say that none of his friends were - their girlfriends and they were very compatible, hence why he was even more envious of his best friends relationships than of the regular couples he passed by in the street (or in the cafe). Keun's incentive for Seobyul was for her to be able to choose a good guy. It wouldn't mean much as a payment for tuition that would cost him so much money that he could be spending on shopping or something else only to help her get her heart trampled and taken advantage.
A rundown of what Byeongkeun had planned to make Seobyul aware of what was typical of many guys. One, guys could be greedy, only thinking about themselves. He knew that one from being popular. Naturally, it's almost instinct to find the most attractive and "equal" companion to walk around with, unless the guy wanted to sacrifice some popularity points and a lower rating. Two, even if a guy looks nice, many times after a guy gets the girl that they try so hard to get before, he will stop trying because the girl had already fallen into his love trap; the girl would have already assured and secured her feelings for the guy, therefore allowing the guy to neglect the girl in many ways. Third, some guys are too domineering or protective of girls, so they could be too overwhelming for some girls, making them feel uncomfortable in the relationship. Lastly and most importantly, being able to distinguish between someone who has genuine feelings between someone who doesn't is vital for a good relationship. Some people are incapable of straightforwardly expressing a crush for example, so they have to in other ways. Keun's seen a lot of those.
Did his test make her feel awkward or uncomfortable. Did she think that he was asking her seriously? Keun hoped that Seobyul wasn't upset, meaning he had ruined the rest of the day.
He apologized softly and patted her head childishly. Trying to lighten the mood, he responded "ha, I guess that's partially correct." He agreed to do so once she did get a boyfriend, anxious to see his project succeed in action. He paid attention to her reactions when she tried to hide her blushes. Ah~ It really is my bad. I should've listened to hyung. Well, that only meant he got to learn something else today, to make less uncomfortable tests.
Being taunted by a scoop of the kimchi fried rice, Keun leaned in on the table without getting any food on his outfit, and stole the scoop of the fried rice that she waved in front of him. "Oh myyyy goodness~ It's so good!" he exclaimed, pretending to be in shock as if he didn't expected it to be absolutely amazing. He stuck his tongue out at her, reverting back to the playful and joking mood he was in before his test. They've been at Bricks & Scones for a while now, so Keun looked around the cafe and back at the counter, where he saw Hyunmi putting the finishing touches of sliced fruit on that ice cream cake. "What else do I have? Hm, well desserts done" he told her, snapping his position to the helpful waitress approaching them with an extremely large cake that radiated coolness in terms of ice cream and looks. Keun hurriedly got up and started stacking a couple empty plates to make room for the eye-catching cake that received a a few stares from customers, probably thinking it was some big birthday event.
