Starbucks was always the perfect place to do public writing, as pretentious writers go. Songwriters included. Actually, they were there because it was a quick place to meet outside of school that they could just walk in and walk out of. Haneul packed her papers in their her song writing folder that was titled, "SAGE's Ideasplash" at the end of their one hour song discussion session, because SAGE's seductress had a date to attend. Perking up and saying her goodbyes, she waved happily, ready to set out to her next spot where she would ponder strategies to promote their band. Her guitar case was attached by a slash that hung comfortable over her shoulders, swaying from side to side as the excited band member walked towards a flashy looking Korean cuisine.
An elegantly attractive sign caught Haneul's attention when she passed it, double-taking and stepping back as if she saw someone familiar. She bent her knees on the sign's level to get a better look and read the decorative words out loud, "looking. for. baaaands. to. perform," enunciating the words between pauses as she looked at the smaller words that surrounded it. Considering checking this event out, Haneul bounced back onto her feet and tip-toed, looking through the window. Ooo, how fancy~ she cooed, doing a single handed fist pump at SAGE's potential gig before she took a step in the restaurant.
The Palace surely did live up to it's name; it was nice, not having too much commotion unlike some other restaurants that got out of hand yet no one mans up to say it. Past all the tables that were filled with people, Haneul spotted a stage was it?, surrounded by a couple of other dressed tables facing it. At the bottom of the stage were people who looked like they were getting interviewed. That must be the restaurant owner! she thought to herself when she spotted a young man with his eyes on a notebook, diligently writing down what the musicians in front of him were saying. The people were definitely musicians, as a fellow musician can tell. She didn't feel like she quite fit in the be ready for an interview with her guitar slung over another backpack and all, and also being dressed in more or less casual school clothes. The other people looked older and more prepared for an interview situation which seemed to be happening as she watched.
Haneul took an immediate liking to the place when she realized that it had her favorite foods and live music. She didn't notice that the scintillating piano music actually came from the real live acoustic grand piano. It was so good that she assumed it came from a track, playing through the stereos. As soon as the last people the man spoke to finished, Haneul strolled through the isles, slowly making her way to greet him, while still admiring the place. The people that he had been talking to passed her and made a noise that sounded like a snicker. A snicker? Hmph, those guys looked much older than her, so why aren't they big and famous yet? She put on a warm smile to hide her disgusted expression.
"Hello! Are you perhaps... still looking for musicians?" she asked, rather suddenly while the man was still writing on that notebook of his. Maybe it was a bad idea to talk to an interviewer last minute, without any prepation. Haneul peered at his notebook with her lips tightly sealed, swaying with her hands held behind her back anxiously. The guitar case that was resting on her backpack mirrored her swaying as well.

Another day another task at hand. Kyu pulled himself out of bed and grabbed the alarm clock, trying to figure out a way to shut it up. Who changed the alarm? He rolled his eyes at the irritating device and stuffed it under his covers. Kyu began whacking the blasted clock, hoping he would hit the off switch somehow in the process. He had no idea whose alarm it was so he had no qualms about destroying it. You couldn’t blame a guy for being grumpy in the morning. It messed with his biological clock. For two years, he had been sleeping at 2 a.m and waking at 11 a.m. Kyu had became a nocturnal ever since the opening of The Palace. The Palace served dinner and lunch on weekends, which explained his irregular working hours. Gone were the days of leaving the lab at 7pm and sleeping by 11pm. Not that it bothered him. Oh no it did not, he felt much more accomplished this way. Finally, silence. Closing his eyes in contentedness, he lay back down and pulled out the alarm clock. 10.30am, shit. He sat up again, wincing in agony. ”Auditions” he cried out, jumping out of bed. Kyu showered and changed quickly. He pulled out a shirt and jeans. It was not a day for formal wear, he had always loved casual wear. Plus his hyung would probably get suspicious if he went to work so early today. Maybe not he thought to himself, glancing at Minki who was asleep or dead, nah he was probably hung over. Kyu shook his head sadly, wondering where the responsible, happy hyung went. Kyu stopped on his way out and decided to prepare to coffee and tea. As much as he loathed seeing Minki like that, he still cared very much for his hyung. Preparing the after hang over drinks were a piece of cake, so he didn’t mind doing them. Scribbling a quick note on the table, he headed downstairs. Manager Joong was as punctual as ever, waiting for JungKyu seemed like a test to his patience. He regarded Jungkyu with a disapproving look for his tardiness. Kyu managed an apologetic smile. Yes he was the co-owner of the restaurant but Manager Joong was the oldest had the most experience when in came to managing a restaurant, and Kyu happily gave him the respect he deserved. In fact, it was Manager Joong who suggested that The Palace hire a live band on weekends, since the profits were good. It would be an investment. Jungkyu didn’t see anything wrong with the idea, the only problem he could foresee was upsetting his hyung by not hiring him. So these auditions were held in secret. Not secret secret but still, he’d prefer if his Hyung not find out about it. A few hours passed and Kyu had to admit he’d seen some talent in the making. He was never a music kid but he had his two cents to offer on some of the bands. He’d actually like some of the bands but Manager Joong had deemed them as ‘inexperienced’ or ‘trashy’. ”It’s all about the image Mr. Oh” Manager Joong told him, as if he were offering him sage advice. Kyu nodded lightly at that comment, turning his attention back to the notes. classy band. Too old perhaps? Maybe not he scribbled down next to the band name, marking a question mark. He flipped back to the previous page, doodling random cutesy drawings of food. He was planning out the special menu at the request of some director. He had forgotten the name but dismissed that as irrelevant. To an extent, the Palace was pretty fancy. It definitely did not cater to teenagers and their study hours. It was more for the family and business clientele. Kyu looked up abruptly in mid-doodle. Was she talking to him? He looked around, Manager Joong was at the door with the previous band, looking rather content. Ah that seals the deal he thought to himself, trying to decide if he liked the band too. Speaking of which, he turned back to the girl- lady- woman? Girl, he settled on calling her the girl for now. She was here to audition? He caught her trying to look at his notes. Normally he wouldn’t care but it seemed inappropriate to be doodling at a time like this. He nodded, setting the notebook down on the adjacent chair. ”Uh, yes why?” he asked, looking up at her. Just then, he spotted the guitar swaying behind her backpack. ”Oh you’re the musician! Okay… uh how old are you?” he asked, standing up. She looked like a high school girl. Maybe it was a costume? Haneul was excited, hearing him respond as if he wouldn't have. She readjusted her guitar strap so that he could see it. It was rather hard for her to just straight out say, "why yes, I'm a musician." It sounded too out there for her, telling people that she was a musician; in hand, this often caused people to be dubious about whether or not she really was.
"I'm seventeen! A senior in high school~" she replied, clapping her hands together. Looks like she might get a shot to... get a shot to promote SAGE! She was still engaged with her surroundings, but she realized that it might've been better to add more to her response, given she didn't want to be wasting his time with futile questions and answers. Haneul continued, "See, I'm in this band called SAGE, and we've been looking for some gigs, so if we get that spot, we could do group or individuals, all up to the boss!" "I'm in a band," were common words that came from rookies. She knew all too many people who claimed that they could play an instrument or do something, but they couldn't really do it. Sure, they could maybe make sounds with it, but it wasn't worthy enough to be called "playing."
Her outfit was costume-ish today mainly because she felt so preppy in the morning. The day started off bright and sunny and so was she. Maybe the cute clothing and accessories were a little exaggerated which added to the costume factor of her outfit. Her cute buttons she pinned on her guitar case didn't look "professional" or anything like the cases of the other musicians that pinned up sponsorships and supporters on theirs. It'd be a waste if anyone turned her down before watching her perform. :<
One of the things that annoyed her the most is people doubting her. Haneul's a very passionate and hard working girl that puts a lot of effort into what she does, music being on the top of her list. She was well aware of his lack of faith in her when she sensed the doubt in the tone of his question. Nono, she didn't like it at all, but repressing that feeling, she kept her comment to herself.
The sign that first drew her into The Palace had small sections of words underneath the big headline, "Looking For Bands." Reading the smaller text might've been helpful, since it would've given her an idea on what to expect. She bit her lip and nearly shouted when she suggested, "hey! you know, you should let me play for you!" Playing right now would be a great opportunity since the restaurant had quite the amount of people, just enough to be a medium-sized audience. Being in any situation where someone doubted her provided the perfect incentive for her to garner attention. Now she had to keep this spot. Haneul spotted an older man talking quite engagedly to the band that had snickered at her. Would she have to convince or change that man's mind as well?

he said with a small smile. There were two things in his mind right now. One her age and two he was trying to hint to her that a high school band wouldn't exactly fit the family and business clientele The Palace catered to. On the other hand, playing as an individual would fit the bill rather nicely. Manager Joong would naturally prefer a more, uh, matured individual but Kyu was perfectly fine with letting her have a shot, as long as she had the talent of course. "We"re looking for individuals" he nodded with a kind smile. The requirements were open to individuals and bands but he didn't feel like telling her that a high school band did not sound fine. Just to be sure, Kyu took a side way glance at Manager Joong. He was still preoccupied with the band but it looked like he had reached an agreement with them. Concealing his ‘please use your indoor voice’ face, Kyu managed a weak smile. ”Erm, he’s the one you’re going to have to impress with your music. How about you tell me about yourself” he told her, sounding nothing like a request but a direction. ”Your name is?” he asked, picking up his notebook from the chair. He flipped past his random cutesy doodles unto a fresh page. Name; Age, seventeen; Talent, maybe; he wrote down. Truth was, he had no idea what he was doing. Manager Joong was the one who would handle all the administration related work; Kyu was the happy go lucky kind of person and he figured writing in a notebook would make him look professional. He had picked up a few interview skills from Manager Joong in the past hours. Be cynical, critical and controlling. Maybe that wasn’t the lesson, after all Manager Joong was like that 24/7. So, Kyu decided to take this interview into his own less wrinkled hands. Gesturing to the chair next to him, he sat down as well. ”I’m Jung~” he stopped mid sentence, realizing that this was a formal situation. Although he was still young, he knew when to act formally. ”Mr. Oh. he made a face after saying that. Kyu hated introducing himself as Mr. Oh. It felt weird because his dad was Mr. Oh, he was just Jungkyu. ”Never mind, just call me Jungkyu” he decided in small triumph. She was a high school kid there shouldn’t be any talk of formalness. Kyu looked at the interviewee curiously. In all honesty, he admired her courage for walking into such a place. However, he was rather worried that she couldn’t handle a job like this. There were long night hours in store for whoever got the job. Kyu just couldn’t see how a high school girl like her would be able to handle it. His worries would probably stem from this liking to the gutsy interviewee. You couldn’t blame him. I mean you would too if you spent a whole morning looking at distraught musicians with washed up dreams and nowhere to go. [/ul] I'll pretty-fy it later! rushing out :3 hectic days T.T

She also knew that reaching it was a hard task, and many people were discouraged at either working hard or getting rejected. She's seen her share of crushed dreams as well among a few schoolmates who gave up after they were told, "you're not good enough," and moved onto something else as quickly as they accepted the rejection. Haneul's music drive wasn't solely based on KPOP but she did admire every single musician greatly. After all, SAGE -was- aspiring to be big and popular, even if they needed to take baby steps in order to get there.
She was also aware of the obstacles that would need to be overcome for the band to do well and actually be successful. Even though the potential rejection here could possibly afflict her confidence, she needed to take chances anyway. Since the girls already settled on the training days and other practice work, Haneul would be able to plan out their... pre-debut days in order to get the recognition they needed.
Even when this girl is on the lay low, she rarely lacked confidence in her music. Does he think that we're some nasty, lazy group of noise makers?! She was able to catch the hint and thus, she warned herself to make a more careful choice in her music - not like their original songs were thrashy death metal or anything.
Admittedly, Haneul was nervous. She didn't have the other girls to back her up and all of the audience's focus would be on whoever was on stage and in this case, it was just her and her guitar friend. Luckily, Haneul had already practiced well before coming into this place, being the main vocalist and having her guitar accompany her.
At the mention of that older man, Haneul sealed her mouth tightly and brought her index finger to it, in thought. She bagan talking to herself, discussing her plans on winning over that manager guy. Business just got serious. Quietly mumbling to herself, she discussed barely out loud, "... in this case, maybe I should go for something more well-known instead of an original - Oh! But something pretty, since it fits this setting... but it also has to be impressive..." At the end of her thought, Haneul took one deep breath in, and exhaled, calmly smiling at the guy. "My name is Haneul, but the my name in our band is Angel," she started, her smile widening. "You've probably seen many girls on guitars and whatnot, but I'll show you my best - and you guys can be the judge of that," she voiced, unwavered. Her confidence at that moment came from the song that she planned to perform for them tonight, one of her favorites that she practiced long and hard.
Haneul sat down as he motioned her to at one of the tables that was nearby the small stage. She listened quietly as he talked, soundlessly and minimally swinging her feet back and forth under the table. "Nice to meet you mis- Jungkyu~ I hope we'll work together soon, so just watch closely!" She nodded her head approvingly, waiting for further direction. Patting her guitar case discreetly, she leaned forward and asked him, "when do I get to audition? I'll only need a while to get ready."
During school days, Haneul got out early because of her schedule. Her classes started earlier, so she would end earlier. She made that decision based on the convenience of being able to finish homework earlier and practice before she reached no-noise hours. This girl had the blessed ability to stay up late and wake up, a few hours later, ready to start the day.

he withheld the random bit of information that the guinea pig he had as a child was called Hanuel as well. With that being said, Kyu scribbled down her name and drew a girl stick figure next to it. He looked up as she carried on talking about giving it her best. He smiled back at her, ”Honestly, you’re actually the first high school girl to walk in with a guitar. Let’s just hope you have the talent to match that bravado yes?” He nodded slowly, half business half kidding. He figured that going into full on boss mode would probably freak her out. Her enthusiasm was refreshing but he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. It just made her seem more like a kid than a mature talent musician. However, talent had nothing to do with maturity so Jungkyu did not make any effort to kill her cheerful disposition, yet. ”Heh, sure” he nodded weakly at her enthusiastic reply before glancing over in Manager Jung’s direction. ”How about now, let me just get Manager Jung over here” he waved towards the manager’s direction ”You can get ready now but if you need a little privacy or whatever, washroom is right behind that door with the picture of a lady on it. Avoid the blue picture of a man at all cost got it?” he looked at her again, wondering if that direction was a little too detailed. Seriously, you’d be surprised at the number of people who get confused by the gender in the pictures. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that the patrons were always half drunk but it paid to be cautious. Leaving her to herself, Jung approached Manager Jung who seemed satisfied. Odd. He thought to himself, Very Odd. Manager Jung proceeded to inform him that the previous musician was very good and that it would do the Palace good if he were hired. In other words, he was hired. ”But there’s one more auditionee” he protested looking over in Hanuel’s direction. Manager Jung followed his gaze and dismissed it quickly. ”Hold the audition if you please Mr. Oh, I have to see to tonight’s service” Kyu’s eyes widened, great how was he going to let down a high school girl? He was never good with breaking bad news especially not to girls. Something about the way Korean girls cried that makes your heart melt. He hoped she wouldn’t cry. No she wouldn’t, Haneul seemed much stronger than that. Nevertheless, what was he to do? Kyu walked to the mini platform. He decided to go ahead with the audition. Not because he was afraid to tell her no but because he had a brother whose hopes were almost crushed because people were stingy with second chances. ”Uh he had a tummy ache, bad rice…or something” he explained with a weak smile, ”So I guess it’s just you and me hmm?” he gestured towards the stage, ”Whenever you’re ready Miss Hanuel” [/ul]
